2010 was the year of Wikileaks. After several minor revelations they started to influence the ongoings in World Politics by publishing documents of the U.S. Wars in Afghanistan and Iraqu, and finally created „Cablegate“.
In April 2010 they released the footage of an airstrike of the U.S. Military in Baghdad. The soldiers misinterpreted the equipment of two journalists from Reuters and killed them. (click here for the video and the interpretaion of the New Yorker).
The following July WikiLekas published the so called „Afghan War Diaries“, a collection of 92,000 classified documents abut the war in Afghanistan, especially about incidents with civil casualties. It was highly critisised because of the revelation of names of Afhan informants.
In October the whistleblower site revealed the „Iraq War Logs“, 391,832 United States Army Field reports which leaded to a correction of the death figures of the War (the Iraq Body Count project) and accusations of "US authorities failed to investigate hundreds of reports of abuse, torture, rape and even murder by Iraqi police and soldiers"(read the full „The Guardian“ aricle here).
On the 28th of november 5 major newspapers and WikiLeaks simultaneously published 220 of 251,287 confidential cables of U.S. Diplomats.
